BIO

Jorge Sarmientos is a talented Brazilian orchestra conductor, widely recognized for his musicality and precision. Throughout his career, he has worked with several orchestras in Brazil and the United States, including the Orquestra Sinfônica de Santo André, the Orquestra Acadêmica de São Paulo, the Cleveland Institute of Music Orchestra, the Baldwin Wallace University Symphony, the Suburban Symphony Orchestra, and the Buffalo Philharmonic Orchestra, where he served as Cover Conductor.

In the operatic field, he has worked as assistant conductor and répétiteur at UNIOPERA, taking part in productions of renowned titles such as La Traviata, Carmen, The Barber of Seville, The Magic Flute, among others.

 

His academic background includes a Master’s degree in Orchestral Conducting from the Cleveland Institute of Music, where he studied with Carl Topilow, Vinay Parameswaran, Emily Freeman Brown, and Carlos Kalmar, as well as a Bachelor’s degree in Orchestral Conducting from UNESP, under the guidance of maestros Abel Rocha and Lutero Rodrigues. He has participated in festivals and masterclasses with conductors such as Kenneth Kiesler, Louis Langrée, and Claudio Cruz, with whom he currently continues private studies.

In 2017, he was the winner of the Young Soloists and Conductors Competition of the Eleazar de Carvalho Foundation.
